Liste de billets pour le concert du 29 avril 1815
Le texte ci-dessous, qui provient du Musée-Hector-Berlioz à La Côte-Saint-André, n’est pas daté, mais il ne fait aucun doute qu’il se rapporte au concert de la Société philharmonique du 29 avril 1851. C’est une liste, de la main de Berlioz, de billets distribués gratuitement pour ce concert. Le premier nom sur la liste est celui de Henry Cohen, auteur de l’ouvrage intitulé Le Moine qui fut exécuté à ce concert (grâce à une subvention de 1000 frs. de Cohen lui-même); le deuxième est celui de l’auteur du livret, Hippolyte Lucas, et les quatre suivants (Mlles Dobré et Vavasseur, MM. Jourdan et Hermann Léon) ceux des chanteurs qui participèrent à l’exécution. Plus bas sur la page, dans la marge de gauche, on lit l’indication ‘Les billets de Morel’. Il s’agit d’Auguste Morel, ami de Berlioz, dont l’ouverture fut exécutée au début du concert. Morel était alors de retour à Marseille et ne put assister au concert, mais Berlioz lui envoya des billets pour ses amis à Paris (CG nos. 1401, 1411). On verra d’après cette liste que pas moins de 69 billets furent distribués pour ce concert (qui eut lieu devant une salle presqsue vide). Les billets de faveur étaient pratique courante à l’époque, et coûtaient cher à la Société philharmonique en pertes de revenus.
The text below, which comes from the Hector Berlioz Museum at La Côte-Saint-André, is undated, but there is no doubt that it must be related to the concert given by the Société philharmonique on 29 April 1851. It is a list in Berlioz’s hand of tickets handed out free for this concert. The first name on the list is that of Henry Cohen, the author of the work entitled Le Moine which was performed at this concert (thanks to a subsidy of 1000 frs. given by Cohen himself); the second is that of the author of the libretto, Hippolyte Lucas, and the following four (Mlles Dobré and Vavasseur, MM. Jourdan and Hermann Léon) are those of the singers who participated in the performance. Lower down the page, in the left-hand margin, is the note ‘The tickets for Morel’. This refers to Auguste Morel, the friend of Berlioz; his overture was performed at the start of the concert. At the time Morel was back in Marseille and unable to attend the concert, but Berlioz sent him tickets for his friends in Paris (CG nos. 1401, 1411). It will be seen from this list that no less than 69 tickets were distributed for this concert (which was given in an almost empty hall). Complimentary tickets were a common practice at the time, and cost a great deal to the Société philharmonique in lost revenue.
