The centenary of Berlioz’s death on 8 March 1869 were commemorated by, among other things, launch of the New Berlioz Edition, the Gründ edition of Berlioz’s books (under the auspices of the Association Nationale Hector Berlioz), reissue and release of new recordings of his major compositions, and exhibitions in major cities such as and London and Paris. Radio Times 10-16 July 1982 – a BBC publication
This issue marks a concert performance of Les Troyens at the 88th season of the BBC Proms in 1982. The first two acts were performed at the Royal Albert Hall on the first night of the Proms, Friday 16 July; and the last three acts on the following Sunday. Gennadi Rozhdestvensky conducted the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the BBC Singers and the St Angela’s Singers. The principal roles were sung by Richard Cassilly (Énée), Felicity Palmer (Cassandre), John Shirley-Quirk (Chorèbe), and Jessye Norman (Didon).
